About This Blog

Hello, and thanks for coming to Sarah Speaks!  There are a few important things you should know about me in general and this blog in particular.

First, this blog is written for the people who have chosen to change their status from victim to survivor. In the course of being a victim, you learned to think like one, The purpose of this blog is to help  you think like a survivor.  A big part of that changing the way you think, and the way you approach life.  I also hope that you will be inspired to transcend from merely surviving (which is in itself a HUGE accomplishment) to thriving.

If you are still in an abusive relationship, be aware that that being in an abusive relationship is another set of different dynamics different from healing after leaving.  This blog does not attempt to deal with those issues. I understand that when you are  living with abuse, leaping into a world of unknowns can be as frightening as the abuse you experience. If this is your situation, I recommend visiting the links provided on the side of this page for information that is more relevant for you.

Secondly. I am NOT a mental health professional.  My only qualification for handling this subject is that I am a survivor of domestic violence.  The structure and topics of this blog grew from those roots. The content I chose for this blog is foundational to healing from abuse. I have tried to include a variety of perspectives in recognition of individual differences. The information on this blog leaves a lot uncovered, and a lot of room for differences of opinion. Neither of those goals are the purpose of this blog. The purpose is to inspire you to not only survive the abuse, but to use it as fertile ground to thrive.

Recovering from an abusive relationship is a complex issue.  It  is true abuse  has similar affects on it’s victims.  At the same time, each person’s story contains different variables that determine the most appropriate path to healing. As a vicitm, you leaned some highly effective adaptive skills to cope. Understand that these can be transformed into powerful personal skills by re-channelling them into positive changes.

My goal with this blog is to inspire you to reclaim your life and write your own story on your terms.
